Abstract

Environmental pollution threats can come from various sources, one of which is liquid waste from the tofu industry. This occurs because parameters that do not meet quality standards are discharged directly into water bodies without prior treatment. Therefore, simple treatment is needed to process liquid waste from the tofu industry to prevent environmental contamination. Currently, the use of the Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) method is popular in both domestic and industrial wastewater treatment. The MBBR method offers advantages such as low energy consumption, no need for additional chemicals in operation which prevents additional waste generation, easy operation and maintenance, and requires minimal space. Research results indicate that MBBR can effectively reduce nitrogen compounds and organic compounds. The optimum removal efficiency for organic COD compounds is 92.79%, and for TSS parameters it is 92.52% in the oxic process, both in fluidized attached growth and suspended growth systems. The optimum removal efficiency for NH₃-N is 94.23% in the anoxic process, again in both fluidized attached growth and suspended growth systems. Keywords: Industrial waste, MBBR, oxic, anoxic, COD, TSS, NH₃-N
