Abstract
This study aims to examine the content of organic carbon and nitrogen nutrients, as well as their relationship in mangrove areas in Wonorejo, Gunung Anyar, and Tambak Oso, Surabaya. Mangroves are important ecosystems that play a role in carbon sequestration and supporting environmental balance. This research used a descriptive exploratory method with soil sample collection at three mangrove locations, followed by laboratory analysis. The results show variations in organic carbon and nitrogen content, influenced by factors such as pH, soil texture, and salinity. There is a significant relationship between organic carbon and nitrogen, where an increase in organic carbon content is followed by an increase in nitrogen, indicating an efficient organic matter decomposition process. A low C/N ratio indicates well-functioning mineralization, while a high ratio suggests suboptimal nitrogen availability. This study provides important insights for the conservation and management of mangrove ecosystems.
