Abstract

Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate Plant from dodecylbenzene and sulfuric acid, capacity 60,000 tons/year, is planned to be established in Gerem village, Gerogol sub-district, Cilegon city, Banten. Sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS) is used as the main ingredient in the manufacture of detergent. Sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate is an anionic surfactant that can reduce surface tension. Surfactants have molecules that like water (hydrophilic) and sides that like oil (lipophilic/hydrophobic). Surfactants can unite water and oil because they have dual properties in one molecule. The plant will operate for 330 days a year. The process of making Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate briefly begins by reacting the raw material dodecylbenzene with 98% sulfuric acid in the reactor. The reaction conversion reached 98%. The products formed in the Reactor are Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate Acid and the remaining sulfuric acid. Dodecylbenzene Sulfonic Acid and sulfuric acid are then separated through a decanter. The top result of the light fraction decanter (Dodecylbenzene Sulfonte Acid) is neutralized with 20% NaOH in the neutralizer to produce Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate. Then the liquid Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate is flowed to the spray dryer to produce Sodium Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate Powder with a purity of 95.5%.
