Abstract
Calcium silicate is a chemical compound with the formula CaSiO3 which is often used in various industrial fields. Calcium silicate has many benefits, including as an additional ingredient in cement products, biodentine, chitosan filler, and bricks. Calcium silicate is made by several methods, one of which is using the solid state reaction method. The solid reaction method is carried out by reacting the solid materials CaO and SiO2 to form calcium silicate (CaSiO3). CaO is obtained by calcining limestone to remove CO2 compounds for 4 hours at a temperature of 900 ⁰C. The manufacture of calcium silicate is carried out using a variable solid reaction method which is carried out at a mixing ratio of CaO and SiO2 (1:0.5; 1:0.75; 1:1; 1:1.25; and 1:1.5) with temperature mixing reaction to form calcium silicate (1000 , 1050, 1100, 1150, and 1200) ⁰C. This research aims to determine the best CaO to SiO2 ratio produced in research using the solid state reaction method with optimization using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). Optimization results with RSM show that the optimum point in the experiment was at a reaction temperature of 1050 ⁰C with a mixing ratio of 1: 0.5. The SEM test results on the CaSiO3 sample show that a large number of small grains, irregular shapes, have a surface that looks lumpy and have a round (spheroid) shape. The XRF test results on the CaSiO3 sample showed the highest CaSiO3 content at a temperature of 1000 ⁰C with a ratio of 1:0.5, resulting in a calcium silicate content of 98.8%.
