Abstract

Salt production produces a liquid waste known as “Bittern”, namely a saturated solution containing minerals such as magnesium, sodium, Phosphorus and several other minerals. Bittern which comes from pond waste Salt has a concentration level of around 26-30˚Be with compound content Magnesium Chloride, Potassium Chloride and Sodium Chloride are remaining. By therefore the Magnesium content in Bittern can be used as raw material for making Struvite fertilizer. Struvite crystal formation can be done by the aeration method, namely wastewater treatment method by injecting air into wastewater use a diffuser aerator to create aerobic conditions so that able to decompose inorganic materials in solution. Process carried out by mixing the three solutions with the mineral content Magnesium, Ammonium and Phosphate into a vertical reactor. The MAP solution is added to the in a reactor with NH4 variations + excess by 10%; 20%; 30%; 40%; 50% and varying the temperature by 30˚C; 40˚C; 50˚C; 60˚C; 70˚C. Both variables carried out by flowing air at a rate of 1 L/minute and maintaining pH so that it remains at pH 9. Where pH 9 is the optimum pH for formation Struvite. The process is stopped when the pH reaches 9. A precipitate is formed Next it will be filtered and then carried out a drying process at temperature room. The struvite crystals that have been formed are then analyzed with XRF and SEM methods.
