Abstract
This research developed a mask filter by utilizing water hyacinth cellulose (Eichhornia Crassipes) into cellulose acetate. (Eichhornia Crassipes) cellulose into cellulose acetate. The mask filter was molded with a simple glass plate to produce a mask filter efficiency that is in accordance with SNI. The process in this study was influenced by comparative factors stirring speed and acetylation time in the process of making cellulose acetate from water hyacinth stem cellulose fiber. The variation of stirring speed used were 350 rpm, 450 rpm, 550 rpm, 650 rpm, and 750 rpm, as well as acetylation time in the range of 15 minutes, 20 minutes, and 20 minutes. acetylation time in the range of 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 25 minutes, 30 minutes, and 35 minutes. Research This research was conducted to determine the results of cellulose acetate with the best acetyl content from the variations from these variations, so that later it will qualify as cellulose acetate for making mask filters. cellulose acetate for making filter masks. Acetyl content produced from cellulose acetate of water hyacinth stems has the potential as an material for making mask filters with a range of 36.5% - 42.2%. This research succeeded in obtaining acetyl content in accordance with this range where the best conditions were obtained at a stirring speed of 550 rpm. conditions obtained at a stirring speed of 550 rpm for 15 minutes and 20 minutes at 39.45% and 20 minutes by 39.45% and 38.45%. The results showed the effect of the greater the stirring speed, the smaller the acetyl content formed. that is formed will be smaller. The more the longer the acetylation time, the acetyl content formed will be the smaller, both conditions These two conditions are directly proportional to the acetyl content produced. Cellulose acetate that has been produced is utilized as a mask filter with an acetyl content of acetyl content of 39.45% successfully obtained a Particle Filtration Efficiency (PFE) value of 83.6%. (PFE) of 83.6%. The efficiency value of this mask filter is in accordance with SNI.
