Abstract

Tannins are components of very complex organic substances, consisting of phenolic compounds that are difficult to separate. Tannins have a role as an antioxidant that can inhibit the rate of corrosion by preventing oxidation from occurring. Maja fruit has a large tannin content in the skin of the fruit, the tannin content in the skin of the maja fruit reaches 3%, this allows the skin of the maja fruit to be used as an organic corrosion rate inhibitor. Maja fruit peel was dried in the sun and then mashed, maja fruit peel powder was then extracted using 96% ethanol as solvent and with a temperature of 60oC which resulted in extract of tannins. The variables used in this study were the concentration of the inhibitor and the type of coupon used, namely 0 ppm, 100 ppm, 200 ppm, 300 ppm, 400 ppm, 500 ppm and the type of coupon is Stainless Steel 304, Stainless Steel 316, Carbon Steel. Then the product results were tested using Potentiodynamic Polarization to determine the corrosion parameters in the form of Corrosion Current Density (I cor), Corrosion Potential (E cor), Cathodic Tafel Slope (βk), Anodic Tafel Slope (βa), and Corrosion Rate.
