Abstract

Surabaya is the second largest city in Indonesia, which has experienced rapid development in the arts and economic sectors, particularly in the textile arts industry. The increase in waste volume generated by the textile production sector has made textiles the third-largest contributor to global pollution, surpassing other industries such as automotive, services, and FMCG. Therefore, the Textile Arts Center was established to raise awareness and educate the public on the importance of environmentally friendly textile products, aiming to create a community ecosystem that is conscious of the significance of sustainable lifestyle and textile products. Located in West Surabaya at Pakuwon Trade Center, Sambikerep District, Surabaya, East Java, which is part of the Central Business District (CBD), this Textile Arts Center establishes its identity as a new icon symbolizing progress and innovation in the importance of environmentally friendly lifestyles in the textile sector. With the approach of Mutual Ecological Architecture, the Textile Arts Center is expected to implicitly inspire and raise social awareness, encouraging the public to visit and learn about eco-friendly textile arts at the Textile Arts Center. Consequently, all layers of society, especially those unfamiliar with the concept, can become interested and learn about the importance of eco-friendly textile concepts today. The design discussion method uses the forced-based framework method to identify opportunities and constraints in design. The goal of this framework is to change the perspective in designing towards a direction that does not always have to be formal. This aligns with the principles of Mutual Ecological Architecture, as it directly responds to emerging issues and the surrounding socio-culture as the immediate focus
