Abstract

The Mata Najwa talk show titled “Enaknya Jadi Laki-laki” addresses the topic of male privileges as a legacy of the deeply rooted patriarchal culture in Indonesian society. This research aims to uncover the discourse behind the talk show using digital discourse analysis. Rodney H. Jones states that digital discourse analysis is conducted using four elements: text, context, action & interaction, and ideology & power. The results of the research on the first element, text, reveal the inequality of rights and roles between men and women in domestic, occupational, and social spheres. The second element, context, shows that the discussants are Indonesian citizens who are sensitive to social issues in Indonesia and come from various professions, enriching the discussion. The third element, action & interaction, is examined through audience comments on the content, which express support, opposition, and neutrality towards the presented discourse. The fourth element, ideology & power, reveals that YouTube as a digital medium excels in accelerating the dissemination of ideology from content producers. This episode of Mata Najwa illustrates how modern women are aware of their rights and roles in life, leading to the courage to voice gender equality issues. Keywords: Digital Discourse Analysis, Male Privilege, YouTube
