Abstract
Indonesia's tourism sector is one aspect of increasing the economy and state income by providing many jobs for local communities and earning foreign exchange for the country. Malang Regency is one of the regions in Indonesia that has many domestic and foreign tourist visits because it has natural potential to become a tourist area. There are highland and mountain areas that have natural views and a comfortable atmosphere. This caused Malang Regency tourist visits to increase in 2010-2019 until finally experiencing a decrease in the number of tourist visits in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, it experienced an increase again at the end of 2021 with slowly starting and improving tourism management. The increasing number of tourist visits every year is not supported by the adequate number of lodging accommodations so that it cannot reach the level of satisfaction for a holiday. The arrival of tourists for recreation and entertainment requires these necessary facilities. However, accommodation sector activities often produce waste that damages the environment and uses excessive electrical energy. By building a resort hotel, it is hoped that it can attract more tourist attention and satisfaction as well as pay attention to the environment and use it for sustainability. This can be realized by designing a resort area that is not only for lodging but also fulfills facilities for holiday and recreation needs that still pay attention to negative impacts and control the potential of the surrounding environment by applying an ecological architectural approach. This approach will seek environmental potential, use of sustainable materials, save energy with technology, and control waste from resort activities.
