Abstract

The increase in the volume of laundry wastewater occurs in line with development of laundry businesses in the community. Laundry wastewater consists of many pollutants which can cause serious problems in the environment. However, laundry wastewater processing is still ignored by business actors. To overcome this problem, research was carried out on the laundry wastewater treatment process. One method that can be used to reduce pollutants in laundry wastewater is electrocoagulation. This research was conducted to determine the effect voltage and contact time on COD and TSS content in laundry wastewater. In this research, the electrodes used were aluminum as the anode and carbon as the cathode. The use of aluminum electrodes is because they are more reactive and do not corrode easily. The electrocoagulation process is carried out by assembling and operating an electrocoagulation device with variable voltages of 9 Volts, 12 Volts, 15 Volts, 18 Volts, 21 Volts, and contact time between the electrode and waste water for 120 minutes, 150 minutes, 180 minutes, 210 minutes, 240 minutes. minute. Based on this research, the best COD concentration was 199.3 mg/L at a voltage of 21 Volts and a contact time of 120 minutes, while the best TSS concentration was 1 mg/L at a voltage of 18 Volts and a contact time of 180 minutes.
