Abstract
The resourch is focus about caffe shop as public space and communication space for politics surabaya people, where ever place of cafe shop is as public space having strong role forming public opinion and to run supervision to govermen. This research uses qualitative descriptive method. The results of this study indicate that the coffee shop as a public space has become a place for interaction that is free in expressing opinions, criticisms, dialogues, discussions, debates or discussions and chat with other coffee shop visitors about state and government issues both in the city of Surabaya, government East Java even to the most recent situations nationally. However, political communication that occurs here is only limited to fellow coffee shop visitors as a public (community). Nonetheless, the political talks that occurred were able to have an impact on the political awareness of visitors to coffee shops as citizens (public). Political talks in the coffee shop were triggered by two things: free chat that led to the topic of politics and the existence of existing media and provided by coffee shops as facilities such as daily newspapers, television, and wifi. Keywords : Coffee Shop, Public Space, Political Communication Penelitian ini menaruh perhatian pada warung kopi sebagai ruang publik dan ruang komunikasi politik warga surabaya, dimana keberadaan warung kopi sebagai ruang publik memiliki peran kuat dalam membentuk opini publik dan menjalankan pengawasan terhadap pemerintah. Penelitian ini mengunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa warung kopi sebagai ruang publik telah menjadi tempat untuk berinteraksi yang bebas dalam mengungkapkan pendapat, kritik, dialog, pembicaraan, perdebatan ataupun diskusi serta obrolan dengan pengunjung warung kopi lainya tentang persoalannegara dan pemerintahan baik situasi yang ada di kota surabaya, pemerintahan jawa timur bahkan sampai situasi – situasi terbaru secara nasional. Namun, komunikasi politik yang terjadi disini hanya sebatas pada sesama pengunjung warung kopi sebagai publik (masyarakat). Meskipun demikian pembicaraan politik yang terjadi mampu memberikan dampak pada kesadaran politik pengunjung warung kopi sebagai warga negara (public). Pembicaraan politik di warung kopi dipicu adanya dua hal yaitu obrolan bebas yang menjurus pada topik politik dan adanya media – media yang ada dan disediakan oleh warung kopi sebagai fasilitas seperti koran harian, televisi, maupun wifi.
