Abstract
Films are not only for entertainment but also as cultural education. Film has a very important role in human life, such as society, nation, and state. One type of film that offers knowledge is a documentary film, which is a film that depicts real life. One of the documentary films about the minimalist lifestyle is a film called The Minimalist: Less is Now. The film, which tells the story of two friends named Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus, in this film shows how the process and their life stories finally chose a minimalist lifestyle. Based on this phenomenon, this study aims to determine the representation of happiness in the documentary film The Minimalist: less is now. The problem in this research is how to represent happiness in the film The Minimalist: Less Is Now. The research method used is qualitative with John Fiske's semiotic analysis. Data collection is obtained from observations through the film The Minimalist: Less is Now, and the object of the research is the film The Minimlists: less is now. The results showed that the representation of happiness from the film The Minimalist: Less is Now using John Fike's code of reality, representation, and semiotic ideology. This film reveals that happiness in a minimalist lifestyle is happinesss simple living or simply and Mindfulness living or being careful. Keywords: Documentary, Representation, John Fiske
