Abstract
Zeolite X is a faujasite-type zeolite widely applied in the detergent industry due to its high ion-exchange capacity, well-ordered pore structure, and environmentally friendly characteristics. This study aimed to synthesize Zeolite X via a microwave-assisted sol–gel method using sodium silicate (Na₂SiO₃) and aluminum hydroxide (Al(OH)₃) as precursors and to determine the optimum synthesis conditions using the Taguchi approach by varying the SiO₂/Al₂O₃ molar ratio (1–1.5), crystallization time (5–25 min), and microwave power (120–700 W). The optimum conditions were achieved at a SiO₂/Al₂O₃ molar ratio of 1.375, a crystallization time of 5 min, and a microwave power of 250 W, resulting in the highest yield of 37.93%, with ANOVA confirming that the SiO₂/Al₂O₃ ratio had the most significant effect on zeolite formation. FT-IR analysis revealed characteristic absorption bands at 1011 cm-1 (Si–O–Si), 781 cm-1 (T–O–T), and 565 cm-1 corresponding to the double six-membered ring (D6R), while XRD patterns indicated a faujasite phase with a crystallinity of 83.90%. SEM images showed irregular cubic crystals forming uniform octahedral morphologies with an average particle size of approximately 8 µm, demonstrating that the proposed method is an efficient route for producing high-quality Zeolite X.
