Abstract

Livin' by Mandiri and Bale by BTN are state-owned bank mobile banking applications with different digital service development conditions. Livin' by Mandiri has developed with a large user base and transaction activity, while Bale by BTN is relatively new after transforming into a super app in 2025. In the midst of these developments, there are still problems with use and transactions as well as concerns related to data security and privacy that can affect user acceptance. This study aims to analyze and compare the factors that affect the acceptance and use of both applications using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) model modified with perceived risk, and considering gender, age, and experience as moderation variables. The study uses a quantitative approach through an online survey of 420 respondents who are active users of both applications using the purposive sampling technique. The data was analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results showed that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, habit, and perceived risk had a significant effect on behavioral intention in both applications. Behavioral intention had a significant effect on use behavior, while facilitating conditions did not have a significant effect directly on use behavior. The most dominant positive factors were effort expectancy in Livin' by Mandiri and performance expectancy in Bale by BTN. Gender and age did not show differences in influence between groups, while experience showed differences in certain groups of Livin' by Mandiri users. Overall, the two applications showed relatively similar acceptance patterns, but differed in the dominant factors and the role of user experience.
