Abstract

Manual handling activities in the picking process in the warehouse are carried out repeatedly with various less ergonomic work postures, thus increasing the burden on workers and potentially causing Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs). This study aims to analyze work postures in manual handling activities using the Loading on the Upper Body Assessment (LUBA) method to assess the posture of the neck, shoulders, back (trunk), elbows, and wrists, and the Ovako Working Posture Analysis System (OWAS) method to evaluate the posture of the back, arms, legs, and the load being handled, so as to determine the level of risk of work posture, and provide recommendations for improving more ergonomic work postures. The results of the study based on the LUBA method, the activity of taking goods from storage shelves obtained a score of 13, moving goods to pallets obtained a score of 12, and repacking obtained a score of 11. These three activities are included in category III which indicates that the work posture has a fairly high level of ergonomic risk and requires corrective action. Meanwhile, the activity of carrying hand pallets to the staging area obtained a score of 9 which is included in category II, which does not require immediate corrective action. Based on the OWAS method, the activity of taking goods from storage shelves and carrying hand pallets to the staging area is in action category 2, while the activity of moving goods to pallets and repacking is in action category 3. The results of the analysis of both methods show that most manual handling activities in the picking process are still carried out with less ergonomic work postures and have the potential to cause Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs), so recommendations are needed to improve work postures to reduce the level of ergonomic risk.
