Abstract
PT Bangun Sarana Baja is a steel fabrication company that manufactures tower structures using a make-to-order system. Despite having a structured operational workflow, the company still faces inefficiencies—specifically waste—that could impact delivery punctuality and product completion times. This study aims to analyze waste levels in PT Bangun Sarana Baja’s tower production process using the Waste Assessment Model (WAM) and to determine improvement priorities based on root causes using Fuzzy Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (Fuzzy FMEA). The results indicate that the company's tower production process is not yet fully efficient or optimal. WAM calculations revealed three dominant types of waste: defects (26.90%), inventory (15.27%), and motion (14.40%). Defects accounted for the highest percentage, making them the area requiring the most attention. Fuzzy FMEA mapping identified the following root causes as top priorities for improvement: the absence of a machine suitability inspection check sheet (FRPN 9.27), the lack of 5S layout standards in the factory (FRPN 9.13), and the absence of shadow boards and tool organization SOPs (FRPN 8.87). The study concludes that production process improvements should focus on implementing daily preventive maintenance check sheets, 5S housekeeping, and shadow boards; these measures could reduce production lead time from 1,879 minutes to 1,775 minutes and enable the company to enhance its overall productivity.
