Abstract
Monopotassium phosphate (MKP) is a chemical product widely used in the fertilizer, agricultural, food, and chemical industries. The continued dependence on imports to meet domestic MKP demand is one of the considerations in the design of this plant. The MKP plant is designed with a production capacity of 50,000 tons/year and an operating period of 330 days/year. The selected production process is a neutralization process using 90% potassium hydroxide (KOH) and 85% phosphoric acid (H₃PO₄), followed by a spray drying process. The process was selected based on its relatively mild operating conditions, shorter reaction time, high conversion, and simpler process and equipment requirements. The plant is planned to be located in JIIPE Industrial Estate, Gresik, East Java, considering the availability of raw materials, utilities, transportation, and labor. Utility requirements include 3,709.35 m³/day of water, 28,150.37 lb/day of steam, and 632 kWh of electricity. The plant will be established as a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a Line and Staff organizational structure and a total workforce of 166 employees. Based on the economic analysis, the Fixed Capital Investment is IDR 649,788,105,061, the Working Capital Investment is IDR 273,643,862,769, and the Total Production Cost is IDR 1,094,575,451,074. The Return on Investment (ROI) is 25.5%, the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is 22.1%, the Payback Period (PBP) is 3 years and 1 month, and the Break-Even Point (BEP) is 30.43%. Based on the process, technical, management, and economic aspects, the preliminary design of the 50,000-ton/year monopotassium phosphate plant is considered feasible for establishment.
