Abstract
This study aims to analyze price trends for bird's eye chili (Capsicum frutescens L.) and the factors influencing its price in Malang Regency, East Java—a major production hub in Indonesia. Despite high demand, chili prices are highly volatile and contribute to inflation. Utilizing secondary data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) and the National Food Price Information Center for the 2023–2024 period, the study employs multiple linear regression to examine the impact of production, previous-year prices, consumption, green chili prices, shallot prices, and input costs on price volatility. The results reveal sharp fluctuations, with a peak price of IDR 61,403/kg recorded in December 2023. Production, historical prices, the prices of substitute and complementary commodities, and input costs were found to have significant effects, with production and input costs emerging as the dominant factors. These findings underscore the roles of seasonal production patterns, supply-demand imbalances, and price transmission across commodities. Integrated strategies—such as off-season planting, the development of storage facilities, and enhanced coordination among market participants—are essential to maintaining price stability and ensuring farmers' welfare..
