Abstract
Surabaya, as the City of Heroes and the second largest metropolitan center in Indonesia, possesses significant historical wealth. However, this potential has not been optimally utilized in the historical tourism sector. Data from 2023 shows that although the number of tourist visits reached 17.4 million, the visitation rate to museums remains low and stagnant (2.7%). This low interest is caused by the fragmentation of historical content across various thematic museums without a complete chronological flow, as well as conventional presentation methods that are less relevant to the digital generation. This Undergraduate Thesis proposes the design of the "Surabaya Integrated Historical Smart Museum" as a holistic solution for the revitalization of the city's historical presentation. This project aims to integrate fragmented historical narratives into a single coherent storyline using advanced technology for an immersive experience. The design approach utilizes the theme 'The Immersive Chrono-Continuum', where architecture functions as a vessel for a flowing narrative. The museum content is divided into three main chapters: The Genesis of Surabaya (classic/Majapahit era), The Modern Colonial Face of the City (Dutch East Indies era), and The Crucible of Independence (national movement era to the metropolitan present). Technically, the Smart Building concept combines architecture with interactive technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and holograms. Through this integration, the museum functions as a dynamic educational and recreational space that is expected to become a new cultural tourism icon, evoke civic pride, and contribute positively to Surabaya's creative economy. Keywords: Smart Museum, Narrative Architecture, Surabaya History, Interactive Technology, Immersive Chrono-Continuum
