Abstract
This Field Work Practice (PKL) report was conducted at PT Sinergi Gula Nusantara, Ngadiredjo Sugar Factory, Kediri, with the objective of studying and understanding the industrial-scale sugar manufacturing process, supporting utilities, and quality control systems. The study was carried out through direct field observations, interviews with plant personnel, and the collection of operational data from each production unit. The sugar production process consists of several main stages, including cane preparation, milling, juice purification, evaporation, crystallization, centrifugation, and drying. Sugarcane is first prepared and milled to extract the juice, which is then purified to remove non-sugar impurities without affecting the sucrose content. The clarified juice is concentrated in multiple-effect evaporators until it reaches approximately 60–64 °Brix before being crystallized in vacuum pans. The resulting sugar crystals are separated from the mother liquor using centrifuges, dried with hot air to reduce moisture content, cooled, and finally packaged as SHS (Superium Hoofd Suiker) sugar. The factory has a milling capacity of approximately 6,000 tons of cane per day (TCD), while the main by-products generated include bagasse, molasses, and filter cake (blotong). The production process is supported by laboratory quality control and utility systems, including steam generation, water treatment, electricity generation, and cooling water supply, to ensure stable and efficient plant operation. Based on the field observations, PT Sinergi Gula Nusantara PG Ngadiredjo has implemented an integrated production system that effectively combines process operations, quality assurance, and utility management to produce high-quality refined sugar while maximizing the utilization of by-products.
