Abstract

Fluctuations in the groundwater table do not only induce hydrostatic uplift on foundation slabs (A. Rifai and T. S. Kurniadi, 2023). This study aims to analyze the performance of pile foundations that experience uplift due to a groundwater table rise with a maximum height of 2.5 meters. This analysis was conducted on the axial bearing capacity using the method by Nakazawa, K. (1983), and on lateral deflection using the PLXIS software. The results confirm that uplift forces caused by groundwater have a significant impact that can weaken the foundation’s capacity and increase the risk of deformation. The analysis yielded ultimate bearing capacities of 406.9 kN and 602.08 kN for a diameter of 0.6 cm. These conditions are deemed hazardous to structural stability if not addressed immediately. As a mitigation measure, this study sought to optimize the design by modifying the dimensions of the structural components. The proposed solution is to increase the pile diameter from the original 0.6 meters to 1 meter and the foundation settlement from 2.207 meters to 5 cm, using settlement criteria based on SNI (requires evaluation), ASTM (moderate), and FHWA (acceptable) standards, and from 0.6196 meters to 3.32 cm, with foundation settlement criteria based on SNI (safe), ASTM (safe), and FHWA (minimal) standards. These standards (SNI, ASTM, and FHWA) ensure that all foundation performance remains within safe limits and meets technical requirements. Keywords: Foundation, Soil, Lift Force
