Abstract
A comfortable work environment plays a crucial role in supporting the productivity, motivation, and satisfaction of space users—both employees and customers. The IndiHome office in Rungkut, Surabaya, which serves as a telecommunications service center, currently exhibits several issues regarding its existing conditions, including inefficient spatial layout, restricted circulation, suboptimal lighting and ventilation, and the use of non-ergonomic furniture. These conditions negatively impact work comfort and service quality. This thesis aims to redesign the interior of the IndiHome Rungkut Branch office using a Modern Minimalist approach combined with a Smart Building concept to enhance comfort, spatial efficiency, and the quality of the work environment. The modern minimalist concept is implemented through simplicity of form, a neutral color palette, a neat and functional layout, and the selection of materials that foster a clean, professional aesthetic. Meanwhile, the smart building concept is integrated through the use of automation technologies—such as systems for lighting, climate control, security, and energy management—to support both occupant comfort and operational efficiency. The design methodology employed is Design Thinking, comprising the stages of empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and testing. This research adopts a qualitative approach utilizing a case study method. Data collection involved field observations, interviews with space users (employees and customers), documentation, and comparative studies of similar telecommunications offices. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive and evaluative methods to identify spatial issues, user needs, and the potential for implementing appropriate design concepts. The design outcome encompasses spatial layout concepts, zoning, circulation, the selection of interior elements and furniture, and the implementation of an integrated smart building system. This design aims to create a work environment that is more ergonomic, comfortable, efficient, and adaptable to technological advancements, while simultaneously enhancing employee productivity and the quality of customer service. Furthermore, this thesis is expected to serve as a reference for the future interior design of public service offices based on modern minimalist and smart building concepts.
