Abstract
Institutions play a crucial role in maximizing value creation along the agricultural commodity value chain. The development of the cassava commodity value chain in Jabung District faces the challenge of a low institutional role in collective cassava marketing, resulting in low cassava selling prices at the farmer level. This study aims to analyze the cassava value chain and the role of supporting institutions in the cassava value chain in Jabung District, Malang. The analytical methods used are value chain analysis and Importance Performance Analysis (IPA). The results indicate that the cassava value chain in Jabung District consists of four main actors: farmers, collectors, wholesalers, and inter-regional traders, as well as four cassava marketing value chain flow patterns. The economic results of the value chain indicate that the added value of cassava at the farmer level is IDR 811.26/kg, at the collector level IDR 170/kg, at the wholesaler IDR 447/kg, and at the inter-regional trader IDR 745.5/kg. Farmers achieve the highest added value due to their role as primary producers, converting inputs into fresh cassava. Farmer's share calculations indicate that the marketing flow pattern III is 47%, indicating that this marketing flow is not optimal because the majority of profit distribution is through marketing institutions. Therefore, improvements to this value chain flow pattern are needed to ensure better profit distribution for farmers. The IPA analysis indicates that the main priority in strengthening institutional roles is the function of farmer groups as a means of collaboration and as a provider of agricultural inputs. Furthermore, improvements in institutional extension services, such as mentoring farmer groups and providing access to information and technology, are needed. These improvements are expected to strengthen the institutional role in improving the quality and quantity of cassava, thereby enhancing farmers' bargaining position in the cassava commodity value chain in Jabung District, Malang Regency. Keywords: institutions; value chain; marketing margin; farmer's share;
