Abstract
Boilers in coal-fired power plants (PLTU) play an important role in converting the chemical energy of fuel into useful exergy; however, combustion and heat transfer processes inside the boiler cause exergy losses. This study analyzes the exergy efficiency and exergy destruction of the Combustor and Heat exchanger components under load variations of 325 MW, 450 MW, and 650 MW using five samples of actual operating data for each load and applying the Second Law of Thermodynamics. The parameters used include a fuel LHV of 21,437 kJ/kg, an exergy factor of 1.04, and environmental conditions of 303.15 K and 1.013 bar. The results show that the average exergy efficiency of the Combustor increased from 55.72% at 325 MW to 57.40% at 450 MW and 61.73% at 650 MW, while the Heat exchanger efficiency increased from 64.60% to 65.07% and 71.59%. The highest average exergy destruction occurred in the Combustor, at 441.52 MW, 555.02 MW, and 680.42 MW, while the Heat exchanger recorded 155.87 MW, 198.66 MW, and 232.05 MW, respectively. Therefore, increasing the operating load improves exergy utilization efficiency but also increases absolute exergy destruction, with the Combustor identified as the main component requiring optimization due to its dominant exergy losses. Keywords: Boiler, Combustor, Heat exchanger, exergy efficiency, exergy destruction.
