Abstract
This study is driven by the phenomenon of rice farmers' dependence on middlemen in rural areas, which structurally limits their economic bargaining position. This study aims to examine and analyze the effects of access to capital, transaction efficiency, partnership, and limited market access on the dependence of rice farmers on middlemen in Sukorejo Village, Kebonsari District, Madiun Regency. The research method employs a quantitative explanatory approach, collecting primary data through structured Likert-scale questionnaires. The research sample consists of 90 rice farmer respondents selected using the simple random sampling technique. The data analysis tool used is multiple linear regression via statistical software. The results show that, both simultaneously and partially, the variables of access to capital, transaction efficiency, partnership, and limited market access have a positive and significant effect on farmers' dependence on middlemen. The coefficient of determination (R-Square) value of 76.1% indicates that the variation in farmer dependence is strongly explained by these four independent variables, while the remainder is explained by other factors outside the model. Furthermore, the transaction efficiency variable is found to be the most dominant factor influencing farmers' attachment. The conclusion confirms that this dependence is established because middlemen provide quick financial solutions and transaction convenience that have not been accommodated by formal institutions. Policy implications mandate the importance of strengthening the capacity of rural microfinance institutions, providing transparent price information, and expanding alternative market access to enhance farm household welfare. Keywords: Access to Capital, Transaction Efficiency, Partnership, Limited Market Access, Farmer Dependence.
