Abstract
MSMEs continue to increase in number every year, particularly in the culinary industry sector. The Samiler Cracker Industry Center in Kayangan is one of the MSMEs experiencing business challenges due to intense competition within the same area, resulting in a decline in the number of samiler cracker businesses. These conditions require business actors to possess a high level of business independence in order to maintain and develop their businesses. Entrepreneurial motivation encouraged through empowerment is believed to be an important factor in achieving business independence. This study aims to analyze the level of business independence of samiler cracker entrepreneurs, examine the effect of entrepreneurial motivation on MSME independence, and analyze the role of empowerment as a moderating variable at the Samiler Cracker Industry Center in Kayangan. The study involved 31 samiler cracker entrepreneurs selected from the entire population. The level of business independence was analyzed using descriptive statistics through a Likert scale based on the comparison between actual and ideal scores, while the relationships among variables and the moderating role were analyzed using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) through SmartPLS 4.0 software. The results showed that the level of business independence of samiler cracker entrepreneurs was categorized as moderate, with a percentage of 53.29%. Entrepreneurial motivation had a positive and significant effect on MSME independence, and empowerment was able to moderate by strengthening the influence of entrepreneurial motivation toward MSME independence. Therefore, improving MSME independence is influenced not only by entrepreneurial motivation but also by empowerment support to strengthen the characteristics of MSME actors in managing their businesses independently.
