Abstract
This study aims to analyze the effect of education level, Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), and investment on labor absorption in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) over the period 2015–2024, employing a quantitative approach with panel data regression analysis across five districts/cities in DIY based on secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of DIY. The results indicate that education level has a positive and significant effect on labor absorption, reflecting that improvements in human resource quality effectively enhance labor absorption capacity in a service- and education-based region such as DIY. Investment also proved to have a positive and significant effect, indicating that increased investment meaningfully creates new employment opportunities in DIY. Meanwhile, GRDP does not have a significant effect on labor absorption, attributed to DIY's economic structure dominated by capital-intensive and skill-intensive service sectors, as well as the adoption of technology in public services and tourism, resulting in economic growth that does not automatically translate into proportional increases in labor absorption. Keywords: Labor Absorption, Education Level, GRDP, Investment, Special Region of Yogyakarta
