Abstract
The depropanizer column is a critical distillation unit in gas processing plants, designed to separate propane from heavier hydrocarbon fractions to meet commercial Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) specifications. This field internship study evaluates the performance and operational stability of the depropanizer unit at PT. PGN Saka Indonesia Pangkah Limited. Process modeling and simulation were performed using Aspen HYSYS software to analyze the existing system's performance, establish mass and energy balances, and identify potential optimization strategies. Optimization parameters focused on the correlation between feed temperature, operating pressure, reflux ratio, reboiler heat duty, and condenser cooling load against product purity and yield. The simulation results under existing operational conditions showed that the column successfully maintains propane purity within industrial standards. Furthermore, parametric optimization indicates that adjusting the internal reflux ratio and maximizing heat recovery from the reboiler loop can lower energetic requirements while maintaining stable separation efficiency. This study provides valuable technical insights for process engineers to improve energy savings and operational reliability in the stabilization and distillation unit.
