Abstract
This study aims to analyze differences in the framing of news coverage regarding the alleged fake diploma of Joko Widodo in CNN Indonesia and Republika during the period of April–May 2025. The background of this research is based on the extensive coverage of this issue in online media as well as the differing characteristics of the two media outlets, where CNN Indonesia tends to adopt a legal-procedural and institutional approach, while Republika is known for a moral and more confrontational approach in its news narratives. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with Robert M. Entman’s framing analysis model. The unit of analysis consists of eight news articles, four from CNN Indonesia and four from Republika, selected through digital archive searches on the official websites of both media outlets using the keyword “Jokowi fake diploma.” The findings show that CNN Indonesia tends to frame the issue in a procedural and verificative manner by emphasizing institutional authority, legal certainty, and official investigation results as a way to close the controversy. Meanwhile, Republika places greater emphasis on actor conflict, demands for public transparency, and the moral and political dimensions of the Jokowi diploma issue. This study is expected to contribute academically to the development of online media framing studies, as well as serve as a reference for journalists in presenting news in a more balanced, objective, and fact-based manner, so that the resulting coverage is not only informative but also helps strengthen media literacy in society.
