Abstract

PT Asahimas Flat Glass, Tbk. Sidoarjo Factory as one of the largest flat glass manufacturers in Indonesia faces challenges related to defects in flat glass products that can affect the company's reputation and reduce production effectiveness. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of determining the defects in 80 × 60 meter flat glass products using the Seven Tools method and providing improvement suggestions to improve product quality using the New Seven Tools method. The results of the study showed that the defects in flat glass products were 567 units, with shellchip defects being the dominant defect at 50%, namely 285 units, scratch defects at 22%, namely 123 units, inclusion defects at 16%, namely 91 units, and stain defects at 12%, namely 68 units. The proposed improvements include tightening the quality checks of raw materials from suppliers, implementing a double check system when setting the press cutter machine, conducting routine cleaning of dirt on the roll, conducting spray trials before each coating process, and creating a preventive maintenance schedule on the coating machine.
