Abstract

This study focuses on the preliminary design of a Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP) manufacturing facility utilizing phosphoric acid and sodium carbonate as the primary feedstocks. The plant employs an integrated single-stage and double-stage process, incorporating neutralization, drying, and polymerization phases via a spray dryer and rotary kiln to ensure superior product quality and high conversion rates. Designed with an annual capacity of 60,000 tons, the facility is strategically planned for Padangan District in Bojonegoro, East Java. This hybrid processing approach was selected for its ability to provide enhanced yields and greater operational flexibility compared to traditional manufacturing methods. The design scope encompasses a comprehensive evaluation of material and energy balances, equipment sizing, utility requirements, and safety protocols. Economic indicators confirm the project's strong financial viability, featuring a Return on Investment (ROI) of 32%, an Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 24%, and a Break-Even Point (BEP) of 33%. Additionally, the investment is projected to be recovered within a Payback Period (PBP) of 3 years and 1 month. By optimizing domestic production, this plant aims to significantly reduce import reliance while supporting the growth of Indonesia’s chemical industrial sector.
