Abstract

Women in Indonesia face various challenges, including limited access to education and employment, discrimination, and violence. Nevertheless, public awareness and government policies supporting women’s empowerment have continued to improve, as reflected in efforts in education and training, as well as the increase in the female labor force participation rate, which reached 54.52% in 2023. Despite this progress, challenges such as patriarchal norms, economic factors leading to divorce, and persistent cases of violence remain serious issues, particularly in major cities such as Surabaya, which records high rates of violence against women and children. To address these issues, holistic facilities such as the Srikandi Collaborative Space are needed. This facility not only provides protection for victims but also offers counseling services, skills training, and the development of an empowering ecosystem for women to support their recovery process and self-potential development. The Srikandi Collaborative Space Center is designed to respond to these needs by adopting the theme “Supportive Empowerment,” which aims to create an inclusive and sustainable ecosystem for women. The Behavioral Architecture approach is applied to understand and accommodate user needs by considering behavioral patterns, motivations, and environmental factors that influence the recovery process. The facility design includes temporary shelters, counseling rooms, skills training areas, and educational programs for violence prevention. This center also seeks to build a strong network of solidarity between women and their communities, creating an environment that encourages collaboration and empowerment. Beyond serving as a shelter, the facility is envisioned as a symbol of social transformation, helping women recover from trauma, improve their quality of life, and actively contribute to society.
