Abstract
In line with the support for villages to have independence in providing public services, managing their resources and budgets, this certainly requires an active role for the Village Council (BPD) in overseeing the implementation of development carried out by the village government. Without its role in effective oversight, the potential for abuse of authority and inefficient budget management can occur. This study aims to determine the role of the BPD in supervising physical development in Wage Village, Sidoarjo Regency. The focus of this study is analyzed using the role theory by Biddle and Thomas with four dimensions, namely expectations, norms, behavioral manifestations, assessments, and sanctions. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation. Based on the results of the research, it can be concluded that the role of the Village Consultative Council in supervising physical development in Wage Village, Sidoarjo Regency, has been observed to be quite good in carrying out its role. The Wage Village Consultative Council has demonstrated that it is a representative village institution, as it has carried out its main functions (discussion, aspiration, and supervision). However, the Village Consultative Body still faces some internal and external obstacles. Keywords: Village Consultative Council; Development; Role
