Abstract
This study was conducted to uncover the intentions and meanings embedded in the polemical discourse surrounding the TNI Law as constructed in the Akbar Faizal Uncensored podcast episode titled “Ferry Irwandi Diteror: UU TNI Hanya Untuk Para Jenderal… Tidak Semua Orang Bisa Dikendalikan.” The revision of the 2025 TNI Law raises concerns about the expansion of military authority into civilian spheres and the potential weakening of civilian supremacy. The podcast serves as a discursive arena that captures public criticism toward this controversial policy. The research employed a qualitative approach using Van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis framework, examining the discourse through textual, social cognition, and social context dimensions. Data were collected through document analysis and note-taking techniques. The findings showed that the discourse constructed a dominant macrostructure framing the TNI Law as “a law for generals,” which was reinforced at the microstructural level through rhetorical strategies, figurative language, and intensive syntactic patterns. In the social cognition dimension, the speakers expressed a pro-democratic ideology opposing authoritarian tendencies. Meanwhile, the social context analysis highlighted the role of digital media as a space for public resistance and state criticism. Overall, the study revealed potential risks such as the strengthening of Military Operations Other Than War (OMSP), the re-emergence of the military’s dual function (Dwifungsi ABRI), and the embedding of authoritarian ideology within the TNI Law. This research emphasized the urgency of critically evaluating the 2025 TNI Law, contributing academically to Critical Discourse Analysis in digital media and practically to policy advocacy and democratic literacy.
