Abstract

In today's digital era, data protection is of paramount importance as data is a valuable asset for individuals, organizations, and nations. Data loss can have serious impacts, both financially and non-financially. Therefore, efficient and secure data backup practices are crucial. This study discusses the development of a comprehensive Bash script for data backup, compression, encryption, and restoration on the Linux operating system. The script aims to enhance security and efficiency in protecting data by automating the backup process. Through literature review and methodological research, this study identifies project requirements, designs the script, implements it, and evaluates its effectiveness. Tools and services such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux, rsync, SFTP, Cron jobs, and Bash shell scripting are used in the development of this script. The result is a script that can perform periodic data backups, compress and encrypt data, and restore data as needed by users. Thus, this script provides a reliable solution for efficient and secure data protection on Linux systems
