Abstract

ABSTRACT The decline in soil quality due to agricultural intensification, land conversion, and flooding in Beji District, Pasuruan Regency, is suspected to affect soil fertility in various land uses. This study aims to identify the physical and chemical properties of the soil and classify its fertility status in rice fields, gardens, dry fields, and shrublands. Samples were taken and analyzed for texture, porosity, pH, CEC, base saturation, organic C, P₂O₅, and K₂O. The results showed that the soil texture was dominated by clay and silty clay, the pH was slightly acidic to neutral, the CEC was moderate to high, the base saturation was moderate to high, and the organic C was generally low. The fertility status of the soil in rice fields, gardens, and dry fields was classified as moderate. Meanwhile, the fertility status of shrubland was classified as low. The study concluded that land use has a significant effect on soil fertility, so that an increase in organic matter and improved land management are needed, especially in dry fields and shrubland.
