Abstract
The Islamic Center is a design response to the need for an integrated space for worship, education, and religious activities in one area, in harmony with the local identity and culture of the community. In the context of Tuban Regency, known as the Land of the Saints, the existence of an Islamic Center is crucial to strengthen the Islamic values inherited from the saints, particularly within the context of Javanese Islamic spirituality. The design site is located in a strategic area with the potential to become a center for religious activities in Tuban. The primary target audience for this design is the local Tuban community, including Islamic students (santri), students, and the general public who need a space for worship, Islamic education, and the strengthening of cultural values. Three main problems are formulated in this design: the lack of integrated facilities that accommodate religious activities, Islamic education, and Islamic culture in a representative manner; how to design a mosque that represents the spiritual values of Javanese Islam while remaining adaptive to contemporary needs; and how to create Islamic public spaces that are comfortable, contextual, and encourage socio-religious interaction. To address these issues, an Islamic Center was designed using a contextual architectural approach that considers the harmony between form, function, materials, and local culture. The theme of this design is "Islamic Cultural Continuity," emphasizing the importance of harmony and continuity between architecture and the cultural values of the Tuban community. A contextual architectural approach was used to ensure the design responds to the surrounding environment, both physically and non-physically. The design process employed metaphorical methods, emphasizing local context and historical studies, while also considering user behavior and the site's potential. The resulting design is expected to be an architectural solution that not only meets the needs of worship and education but also serves as a culturally and historically relevant space for spiritual reflection, strengthening the Islamic identity of the Tuban community within a meaningful and contextual architectural framework.
