Abstract
Company XYZ is a logistics company that provides warehouse rental services for storing clients' goods. Warehouse operations involve processes such as inbound, outbound, picking, and packing. The picking process is crucial because delays in this stage can disrupt subsequent processes and result in delayed customer orders. This study aims to improve productivity and cost efficiency in the picking process by comparing the conventional method, which uses standard trolleys with a capacity of 6 orders and basic scanners, to a new method that utilizes high-capacity trolleys (20 orders) and Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). Productivity measurement was conducted using the Time Motion Study (TMS) method. The results show that the new method increased productivity from 31 orders/hour to 36 orders/hour and reduced picking time from 40 minutes 7 seconds to 33 minutes 28 seconds. Additionally, the number of pickers required decreased from 21 to 18 per day, resulting in cost savings of IDR 15,600,000 per month. The investment of IDR 99,000,000 for the purchase of PDAs and high-capacity trolleys is projected to yield a return on investment (ROI) by the 8th month. Thus, the new method not only enhances productivity but also provides cost efficiency and long-term effectiveness for XYZ Company.
