Abstract

This research conducted an experimental study on the effect of using a mixture of n-butanol and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) with Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and B40 on the efficiency and emissions of diesel engines under varying loads. The results showed that the B40+n-Butanol mixture provided the best engine performance in terms of power and torque , while B40+BHT showed the best thermal efficiency and specific fuel consumption (BSFC). Additionally, variations of B40 fuel, especially with the addition of n-Butanol or BHT, resulted in lower engine vibration and noise. The B40+n-Butanol mixture also produced the lowest CO, HC, and smoke opacity emissions, indicating a more complete and environmentally friendly combustion , whereas CPO without additives produced the highest emissions for almost all parameters.
