Abstract
High poverty rates in rural areas are often caused by limited access to basic needs, education, and employment opportunities. Various factors such as low levels of education and motivation, limited employment opportunities, and unequal access to resources exacerbate this situation. To overcome these problems, economic institutions capable of optimizing the potential of villages are needed. In this case, BUM Desa (Village-Owned Enterprises) are the solution. Through the establishment of business units, BUM Desa aims to improve the welfare of the community. Therefore, this study aims to examine the role of BUM Desa in improving the welfare of the community in Ngampungan Village using qualitative research methods. The results of the study show that the role of BUM Desa in improving the welfare of the community in Ngampungan Village is 1). as a driving force for the village economy, by developing businesses based on the potential of the village and establishing cooperation with other village institutions. 2) as a business institution that generates local revenue, by opening business units that generate profits and developing innovations for BUM Desa businesses 3) as a means to accelerate the improvement of the welfare of the village community, namely by establishing partnerships with the village community and opening up job opportunities for the village community.
