Abstract

The design of a comic book about the role of photography in Indonesian history was based on the limited literature on photography's role in Indonesian history. This is due to the limited availability of Indonesian literature, most of which originates from foreign languages. Furthermore, there is a lack of visual media, such as comics, that captures the role of photography in Indonesian history. Through visual media like comics, literature on photography's role in Indonesian history can be repackaged into a new story, combining fiction and history. The manga style of drawing makes the message more effective, bringing the characters, settings, and scenes to life. This research employed a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis. Primary data collection was conducted through observation and interviews at the Kediri Photography Museum, and questionnaires. Secondary data was collected through literature studies, including books and scientific journals. This research resulted in a comic book titled "Obscura: Saving Indonesian History," with the primary message of conveying photography's role in Indonesian history. The comic book was printed as a physical book measuring 14.8x21 cm, using 260 gsm art paper for the cover and book paper for the contents.
