Abstract
This preliminary design study aims to establish a cyclohexane production plant in Indonesia to meet domestic demand and reduce import dependence. Cyclohexane is an essential raw material in the chemical industry, particularly for nylon production via adipic acid and caprolactam. The process employs benzene hydrogenation using a nickel catalyst in a fixed-bed multitube reactor under high pressure and controlled temperature. The design covers mass and energy balances, key equipment such as reactors, condensers, heat exchangers, separators, and storage tanks, as well as an economic analysis. With a planned capacity of 210,000 tons per year, the plant is projected to be technically feasible and economically profitable, supported by favorable indicators including ROI, IRR, PBP, and BEP. Located in the Krakatau Industrial Estate Cilegon (KIEC), the facility is expected to enhance the domestic polymer-based downstream industry while providing significant economic benefits.
