Abstract

The Dextrin Plant from Sago Starch Using α-Amylase Enzymatic Hydrolysis is planned to have a production capacity of 32,000 tons per year and will be located at Karawang International Industrial City (KIIC). The product obtained is white powdered dextrin with a Dextrose Equivalent (DE) value of 10. Dextrin is widely used in various industries such as food, textile, pharmaceutical, and paper. The production process of dextrin begins with mixing sago starch and water to form a 30% starch slurry. The slurry is then heated for gelatinization at 95°C for 5 minutes. The gelatinized starch slurry subsequently undergoes enzymatic hydrolysis with the aid of α-amylase at 65°C for 1 hour, breaking down starch chains into simpler molecules in the form of dextrin. The resulting dextrin solution is purified through filtration to remove impurities, followed by evaporation to reduce the water content until a purity level of 70% is achieved. The product is then dried until it becomes a powder.
