Abstract

Malang City, as one of the cultural centers in East Java, has an active arts community and a wide variety of art forms, ranging from traditional to modern. However, despite being known as a cultural city, Malang only has one performing arts building—Gajayana Building—which does not adequately meet the technical and capacity needs for artistic performances. Given the lack of art facilities, it is important to design a new Performing Arts Center that is not only functional but also iconic and capable of reflecting the local cultural identity. An iconic architectural approach in the design of this building aims to create a landmark that can attract tourists, support artistic activities, and become a source of pride for the community. The building will be designed by integrating traditional and modern elements, in line with the local character of Malang City. Additionally, its facilities will meet the technical requirements for dance, music, theater, and art gallery performances. This design aims to increase entertainment and artistic expression spaces in Malang, provide a platform for the growth of local artistic talent, enhance the appeal of cultural tourism at both local and international levels, and become a new icon that represents the identity of Malang City. With a design that takes cultural, economic, and social aspects into account, the building is expected to become a symbol of pride and a center for the development of the arts for the people of Malang.
