Abstract

Pollution of river water by heavy metal pollutants such as hexavalent chromium is one of the problems that requires further attention. Therefore, it is necessary to treat waste containing hexavalent chromium, one of which is by using the photocatalytic process. The purpose of this study is to analyze the determination method and kinetic model of hexavalent chromium reduction in the photocatalytic process using TiO2 Immobilized Photocatalyst Resin. In addition, it also analyzes the role of pH in the reaction rate kinetics of hexavalent chromium reduction. The method used was to use 30, 40, and 50 grams of Resin Immobilized Photocatalyst TiO2 catalyst and to produce artificial waste containing Cr6+ using potassium dichromate with initial pH conditions of 3, 5, and 7. Sampling was carried out for 5, 15, 45, and 60 minutes. The results showed a decrease in hexavalent chromium over time, with a better reduction rate at a catalyst mass of 50 grams and a pH of 5. The reaction kinetics for all variations followed a second-order reaction, obtained using the integral method, so that the kinetic model followed the equation XA/((1-XA))=k*t*CA0=(CA0-CA)/CA. The highest reaction rate occurred at an initial pH of 5, followed by a pH of 7, and the lowest at a pH of 3. The highest reaction rate was achieved using a catalyst mass of 50 grams.
