Abstract

Surabaya, as the largest creative economy centre in East Java, contributes significantly to national creative economic growth. With more than 142,000 creative practitioners, this city has great potential to continue to grow and support both the regional and national economies. However, the challenge faced is the lack of facilities and infrastructure capable of supporting collaboration across creative sub-sectors. In addition, the high unemployment rate among the productive age group is an issue that requires attention, given that this group has great opportunities to drive innovation and development in the creative economy sector. The unmet need for collaboration spaces means that this great potential has not been fully optimised. To address this need, the Surabaya Creative Youth Centre was designed using the concept of Space Flexibility. This concept provides spaces that can be adapted to various activities and user needs based on changes over time. This creative centre is designed to be a dynamic platform that supports collaboration among young creative economy actors, facilitates innovation, and creates an inclusive creative ecosystem. With this facility, it is hoped that Surabaya can accelerate its creative economic growth, optimise the potential of its young generation, and enhance the city's competitiveness at the national and global levels.
