Abstract

This study aims to analyze the comparative advantage of Indonesian black pepper exports, analyze the competitive advantage of Indonesian black pepper exports and Indonesia's position as a black pepper specialization country and analyze Indonesia's ability to capture the black pepper export market. In this study, researchers used secondary data collection methods through UN Comtrade Data. This study uses the Revealed Comparative Advantage Index, Normalized Revealed Comparative Advantage, Trade Specialization Index, Acceleration Ratio data analysis methods. The results of this study indicate that (1) Indonesian black pepper has a comparative advantage and has competitiveness as evidenced by the results of Indonesia's NRCA value for the 2013-2023 period above 0. Brazil and Vietnam also have NRCA above 0 but less than 1. The low value of Indonesia's NRCA is caused by the low productivity of Indonesian black pepper, especially in smallholder plantations (2) Indonesian black pepper is considered to have a competitive advantage and is competitive as evidenced by the results of Indonesia's TSI value for the 2013-2023 period of more than 0.80, which means it has a level of maturity as an exporter whose value is above Vietnam but still below Brazil. Brazil has a TSI value above 0.80, which means it has a maturity level as an exporter above Indonesia and Vietnam. Vietnam has a TSI value of more than 0.80 but is still below Indonesia and Brazil. (3) Indonesia has a large export market share, as evidenced by the average AR value for the 11-year period 2013-2023, which is 2.27. Meanwhile, Brazil has a value of 1.36 and Vietnam has an average AR value for the 11-year period 2013-2023 of 1. Thus, Indonesia is able to capture the black pepper export market.
