Abstract
Paper made from cellulose-based materials is often targeted by termites. To address this issue, an innovation was developed in the form of termite-resistant paper. Soursop (Annona muricata) leaves contain approximately 49% acetogenin compounds, which act as stomach poisons to kill termites. This study aims to produce termite-resistant paper from peanut shells and chicken feathers with the addition of soursop leaf extract, in accordance with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 01.7207-2006. The parameters evaluated include paper weight loss, lethal time (LT₅₀), and termite mortality. Termite-resistant paper was produced with soursop leaf extract concentrations of 2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, and 10%, with termite mortality observed over a period of 1 to 5 days. The results showed that the addition of soursop leaf extract effectively increased termite resistance in accordance with SNI standards. A concentration of 8% yielded the best results, achieving 100% termite mortality within four days, and LT₅₀ was reached within three days at concentrations of 6%, 8%, and 10%. Response Surface Methodology (RSM) analysis identified the optimal condition at 8% concentration and 5 days of observation, resulting in 95.22% termite mortality and a paper weight loss of 0.22%. Soursop leaf extract is thus proven to be an effective anti-termite additive in paper production with an optimal concentration of 8%.
