Abstract
This study explores how online media framed the news coverage of Ifan Seventeen’s appointment as President Director of the State Film Production Company (PFN) in March 2025. Ifan, known as the vocalist of a music band, was appointed to lead the state-owned film institution, which sparked mixed reactions among the public. Some questioned his qualifications due to his lack of background in filmmaking, while others viewed the appointment as a form of leadership regeneration and cross-sector collaboration within the creative industry. This event triggered widespread public discourse and became a prominent issue in online media reporting. The study employs a qualitative approach using Robert N. Entman’s framing analysis model, which consists of four key elements: defining problems, diagnosing causes, making moral judgments, and suggesting remedies. The research focuses on two national online news platforms Tempo.co and CNN Indonesia which differ in editorial character and ownership. Tempo.co is known for its critical and independent journalism, while CNN Indonesia is under the CT Corp group, which is closely tied to corporate and political interests. The findings reveal that Tempo.co framed Ifan’s appointment critically, emphasizing various public criticisms and doubts regarding his professionalism and the legitimacy of the government’s decision. In contrast, CNN Indonesia adopted a more affirmative and supportive framing, highlighting government defenses and Ifan’s track record in the creative industry. These differences demonstrate how media outlets construct reality and shape public perception of government policy, particularly in cases involving celebrity figures in public office. Keywords : Framing, Online Media, Ifan Seventeen, Tempo.co, CNN Indonesia.
